At about 11:30 am yesterday Edward Milne Community School entered into a Hold and Secure. During ‘Hold and Secure’ all school perimeter doors are locked and no-one is permitted to leave or enter the building. This procedure allows school activity inside to continue. Out of an abundance of caution, we also chose to keep students in their classrooms while the RCMP assessed a situation that included a possible threat to the school.
As outlined in the police news release, once the suspect was arrested the Hold and Secure was lifted. RCMP assure us that our school and students are safe.
We have provided extra resources to EMCS to assist staff and students who may have questions or need extra support and will continue to do so.
Going forward, as a District we will continue to work with police resources in our communities to ensure the safety of our students, staff and broader school community.
Thank you for your patience and continued understanding and support.
